Fall Anime 2024 Mid Season Check In

There is a lot of great new anime airing right now! We talk through our favourites of the current season, Fall 2024. While Dandadan steals the spotlight, we've found a mature favourite in Orb: On the Movements of the Earth, while Ranma ½ delivers one of the best remakes we've seen in a long time. The much anticipated Uzumaki and Blue Lock series have both seen some disappointing quality drops in their seconds episodes too. What have you been watching this season?

Ranma ½

After taking a surprise dip in a cursed spring while on a training journey in China, martial artist Ranma Saotome and his father, Genma, aren't quite themselves anymore. Now Ranma turns into a girl whenever he's splashed with cold water, and Genma turns into a panda! Their new forms cause nothing but confusion at the Tendou dojo, where Soun Tendo is waiting to introduce one of his three daughters to Ranma - as his fiancee! Turns out Genma and Soun arranged the match long ago, but the girl, Akane, and the boy, Ranma, aren't exactly crazy about the idea, or each other! Or are they? Watch the gender switching, jealous rages, and martial arts battles unfold all over again! (Source: Viz Media) Note: Episodes 7-9 of Ranma 1/2: Nettou-hen were originally meant to be seen between episodes 13 and 14 of this series.

dandadan

Momo Ayase is a high school girl who believes in ghosts but not aliens, while her classmate Ken Takakura believes in aliens but not ghosts. In a bet to determine who is correct, the two decide to separately visit locations associated with both the occult and the supernatural—Ayase visiting the former, and Takakura visiting the latter. Ayase is abducted by a group of aliens who accidentally unblock her chakras, enabling latent psychic abilities. Meanwhile, Takakura is possessed by a spirit who takes over his body. By using Ayase's abilities and Takakura's possessed form, they defeat the aliens together. The rest of the story follows the two, as they team up with fellow students, friends, family, and new acquaintances to fight spirits and aliens; the overarching plot themes include retrieval of Takakura's testicles and the development of romantic feelings between Ayase and Takakura.

Orb: On the Movements of the Earth

The setting is 15th-century Poland. It was a time when heretical ideas lead those to who possessed such a mindset to being burned at the stake for their beliefs. The protagonist, Rafał, a child prodigy, is expected to major in theology, the most important subject at the time, at the university where he plans to skip a grade. One day, however, he comes across a mysterious man, and is now studying a possible "truth" in the midst of heretical thought! (Source: Shogakukan, translated)
